Waihola-Chaslands 12th February

68 Miles. Relatively easy start to the ride,on a bright sunny morning.

Stopped off in Balclutha for an early lunch, pumpkin salad very nice. Then the rain turned up (as forecast), but thankfully only for about an hour. Rain replaced by headwind and hills.

Though the wind has one use, it helps dry my laundry tied to the back of the bike.

Tough riding was eased a bit by the landscape. I was cycling through an area called the Caitlins, very picturesque and quiet.

One potential blip, as I arrive at a bridge that is closed, suggesting a 10mile detour. I don't think so!!!

Carefully remove the barrier netting and walk across.

Eventually made to a campsite at about 6.30. Met a very nice Brazilian couple, who were also on bikes, swapped stories of hills, difficult roads etc.
